TK&E's Adventures: Kauai Revisited

I have finally downloaded all of the pictures from Kauai. The trip was terrific, and I think we explored every part of the island in the 8 days that we were there. However, we were ready to come home, and luckily we were able to catch the early flight out of LAX giving us a 55 minute layover instead of the 5+ hour layover we were anticipating.

Here are a few pictures of the trip. They are in no particular order. Hope you enjoy.

If you have never been to Kauai, they have a huge population of chickens EVERYWHERE. From our understanding, this is due to the lack of mongoose on the island. Here is a rooster. E loved the chickens.

Tom and E's sandfort. Day 2. Suprisingly, the fort was not washed away overnight, so they continued to build it the second day.

This is the monk seal that beached itself outside the hotel one day. Pretty cool. There are something like 120 monk seals left in the world, and 30 of them live near Kauai. So I thought it was pretty cool that we got to see one of them in nature.

Can you go to Kauai and not take a picture like this? Loved it. View from a place we had lunch one day in Kapaa.

Dolphins from the catamaran. We got to see (2) different pods of dolphins. The first was a pod of bottlenose dolphins. I guess a fairly rare siting in Kauai. Then we saw a pod of over 1000 spinner dolphins. These are the spinner dolphins. Way cool to watch.

This is the last leg of the hike to the Queen's Bath. Down the lava rock fields and to the bath. The first leg is down the side of the mountain in the background.

This is the Queen's Bath. It is a "pool" created by these rocks right off of the coast of the ocean. See previous post for more information.

This is Wailua falls

This is Wailua Falls during a rain storm.

This is a waterfall we saw on our drive up Waimea Canyon. Very pretty.

So after the 1.5 hour drive up the canyon, and the short hike, Ellie and I went out to overlook the ocean. This is what we saw. Afternoon fog sucks.

This is spouting horn.

This is another vent off to the right of Spouting Horn. In the little pool area we were able to see green sea turtles.

Tom and I thought it would be awesome to take the Sebring four wheeling to see the Blue Hole. This was the first spillway we had to traverse. Once it started raining we realized we should get back across it before it looked like the above picture of Wailua falls.
