The other day Ellie and I were driving home from school. I was going through the normal routine of what did she do that day, what did she have for lunch, snacks, etc, did she take a nap, did she play outside... etc. Its like 20 questions with a 2 year old. In the middle of all of this, Ellie asked me if I had an "e" in my name. I said, "Yes, I have 3 e's in my name". She proceeded to ask me about "l", "i" and "e", and whether or not I had those letters in my name. After playing along, I realized that my almost 3 year old just spelled her name for me. I asked her to do it again, and by golly, she CAN spell her name. I was a little taken aback by that, but nothing compared to what came next.
After we had been home for a couple of hours, Ellie wanted to color. So we got out the pens and paper, and we practiced drawing our straight lines, circles, triangles, squares, etc. Then I asked her if she could write her name, and holy crap! She can! Attached is Ellie's first autograph that she has given me. Needless to say, one can not be more proud!
